Security doesn’t mean secrecy, says But Klaasen, Programme Manager for Innovation at the National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism.
pitch
Since 2011 this organisation has been responsible for counterterrorism, cyber security, national security and crisis management in the Netherlands. It’s a world in which many people believe that secrecy is vital, Klaasen says. Yet keeping quiet about innovative ways to protect people won’t make them safer – it just creates fear and distrust among the public.
Klaasen believes in explaining and sharing security innovations through initiatives like the NSS Innovation Room. This exhibition showcases the latest innovations in event security – like intelligence tools built into the helmets of mounted police.
The NSS Innovation Room opens to the public on 21 March 2014.
