Forensic knowledge and technology provide the objectivity needed for a strong criminal justice chain in a secure democratic society, says Andro Vos of the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI): forensics don't judge you on your skin colour, religion or sexual orientation. But as we enter a new era in forensics, Vos explains, new crime-fighting technology will call for a careful balance between the needs of security and the right to individual privacy.

As a Programme Director at the NFI, Andro Vos led a pioneering programme on crime scene investigation, bringing together techniques ranging from augmented reality and serious gaming to thermal and spectral imaging.
